چکیده

In previous papers, we have presented a logic-based framework based on fusion rules for merging structured news reports. Structured news reports are XML documents, where the textentries are restricted to individual words or simple phrases, such as names and domain-specific terminology, and numbers and units. We assume structured news reports do not require natural language processing. Fusion rules are a form of scripting language that define how structured news reports should be merged. The antecedent of a fusion rule is a call to investigate the information in the structured news reports and the background knowledge, and the consequent of a fusion rule is a formula specifying an action to be undertaken to form a merged report. It is expected that a set of fusion rules is defined for any given application. In this paper we extend the approach to handling probability values, degrees of beliefs, or necessity measures associated with textentries in the news reports. We present the formal definition for each of these types of uncertainty and explain how they can be handled using fusion rules. We also discuss the methods of detecting inconsistencies among sources. 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Reasoning with multiple-source information in a possibilistic logic framework

This paper addresses the problem of merging uncertain information in the framework of possibilistic logic. It presents several syntactic combination rules to merge possibilistic knowledge bases, provided by different sources, into a new possibilistic knowledge base. These combination rules are first described at the meta-level outside the language of possibilistic logic. Next, an extension of p...

The basic principles of uncertain information fusion. An organised review of merging rules in different representation frameworks

We propose and advocate basic principles for the fusion of incomplete or uncertain information items, that should apply regardless of the formalism adopted for representing pieces of information coming from several sources. This formalism can be based on sets, logic, partial orders, possibility theory, belief functions or imprecise probabilities. We propose a general notion of information item ...

A knowledge-based approach to merging information

There is an increasing need for technology for merging semi-structured information (such as structured reports) from heterogeneous sources. For this, we advocate a knowledgebased approach when the information to be merged incorporates diverse, and potentially complex, conflicts (inconsistencies). In this paper, we contrast the goals of knowledge-based merging with other technologies such as sem...

Logical fusion rules for merging structured news reports

Structured text is a general concept that is implicit in a variety of approaches to handling information. Syntactically, an item of structured text is a number of grammatically simple phrases together with a semantic label for each phrase. Items of structured text may be nested within larger items of structured text. Much information is potentially available as structured text including tagged ...

NewsFusion Systems: Logic-based merging of heterogeneous news reports

A NewsFusion System is a logic-based system for merging heterogeneous structured news reports. We assume structured news reports do not require natural language processing. In previous papers [Hun00, Hun02b,...
